Story Index

My stories. Whatever spilled out of my brain as I typed things into Microsoft Word, usually.

If you read a story you like or don't like, I have one thing to say to you. Leave a comment! - and tell me why you liked or didn't like it. Or at least tell me which story you read and whether you liked it or not. Please?? Pretty please?

I also have to state that this is all my material, property of me. It is not to be published elsewhere without my express permission. If you have any doubts, please e-mail me at indigoharmony@yahoo.co.uk.

Fairy Tale Parodies

I have a mild obsession with fairy tales. What I most like about them is their timelessness, strong storylines, and the ability to parody them. That especially.

Buttons goes to the ball
Buttons did all the work and got none of the credit. But one day, a fairy godmother just happened to be standing by when he made a wish of his own.

Uninvited
Bizarrely feminist, humorous, not my best but people seem to like it :) A mischievous fairy works some revenge that goes a little wrong.

The Royalty Song
Actually a filk, once again based on that fine woman, Cinderella.

The only story I ever got cash for

The incredibly short competition entry (750 words!). I entered it for a school short story competition judged by Jane Wenham-Jones (what do you mean you've never heard of her? Um, neither had I, but I plan to buy her book at some point, seems only fair). She gave me second prize, a cool £20. Wow... but I only did it for the fame. And I admit, I'm really chuffed to have won a prize. It was on the theme 'The Elements'. So go on and read...

Perfect Situation
If Hollywood had done it, it would have been a love story. I did it, so it wasn't. Mwahaha!

Quite long ones

Prince Charming
Urban Fairy Tale? Pah! Elizabeth Edwards traces her relationship with the boy down the street, from a disastrous attempt to sabotage a football match to a gondola ride in... South-East England? Can it be?

The Cons and Pros of Self-Discovery
A sequel (ish) to Prince Charming, in which Sophie Edwards attempts to make some sense out of life, camping, and Kyle.

The Crystal Set
Four supernatural companions tell each other their dramatic stories...

In Search of the Dragon
“The witch had tried to make her believe that all she was would be nothing in the real world, and that surrendering to the spell was her only hope.”
Lorraine's an athlete and in the meantime, a fantasy writer. After the death of her parents, Lorraine feels abandoned by her church, distant from her friends and ignored by her foster parents. She turns to writing to combat the 'dragon' which destroyed her life - but in real life, things are not quite so simple. (UPDATED)

Telling Stories
“If writers never changed their minds, we’d all be stuck reading first draft.”
A comfortable medium in length, a story about a boy who has a writer for an aunt. It's been a while since I talked to any eleven year olds, so forgive me if he seems a little too young or indeed a little too old.

Set in Stone
“I have been locked in here with no-one to talk to for about two weeks, and even knowing what I know, or believe I know, I am afraid.”
RT's account of life aboard a colony on a barren planet in a binary system, and her attempts to change society.

Back for a Spell
“Sir Stephen had a passion, and now he had an excuse to use it”
A crazy ride including my most favourite setting in a story that I wrote ever, some time travel, a total inability to reference Arthurian legend and a bit of romance. I watched too much television as a child. If this story seems weird, I plead youth. If it's good, then... good :)

Really short ones

The Blood Donor
“Have you given blood before?” she asks. I have. There is a certain comforting ritual to this virtuous act, I’ve found, restoring a sense of order to a chaotic world.

A Change of Scene
Actually autobiographical, it's about my old job and my new job and my ineptness at interviews...

Time for a break
“Here he was, having the greatest invention since the wheel at least, and they just wanted to see the thing working”
A one-nighter; didn't take me very long at all. A nutty little story that for once does not take itself too seriously.

Alone in Paradise
“Might as well work in Hell if you can retire to Heaven.”
The story of someone who lives alone on a desert island.

Dream Come True
Don't ask me what it's about, it's just an unusual narrative.

Bloody awful - I don't deny it

Saving Time
“It’s like someone’s been fitting time together with bits of bad fitting jigsaw.”
Adventure! Romance! Mystery! Intrigue! Aliens! Weird Science! A plot as written by a thirteen year old me; the writing is much improved by the plot remains the same. Heh.

Time and Time Again
The original version of Saving Time, complete with spelling mistakes. Was written in 1997.

Time and Time Again MST'd
Time and Time Again extensively mocked, in the rough style of Mystery Science Theatre 3000.

The Concert Band
“I was a wild one, who joined the people I wanted to join, not those who took me for granted.”
I was fourteen and foolish, what more can I say? A boffin takes a chance on a double life by joining a band. I have affections for this story because I wrote it around the time I had my most favourite English teacher.
